I Believe - A Summary of Basic Catholic Beliefs
Come share the journey.
One of our greatest treasures of the Catholic Church is Catechesis. The ministry of the "Good News" is one of the wonderful ministries we share with families. This is a ministry of faith, active and fruitful, continuing to build foundational relationships with Jesus Christ. It is an intimate relationship with Jesus, which forms active faith lives in children and adults. Catechesis places Jesus at the center of our lives. Thus, we come to know, love and serve Christ.
Formal catechesis occurs in the parish (classes, sacramental preparation). With teachings of Sacred Scripture and the rich Tradition of the church we encounter Christ. As our faith journey grows and challenges us to become active in ministry we see all facets of parish life are catechetical.
Home life is catechetical as well. Active family faith in the home nurtures and matures discipleship. Establishing a rhythm of attending Sunday Mass weaves Christ into the fabric of family life.
Take time to reflect on the many opportunities we have had to encounter Christ through catechetical moments at the parish and at home. Continue to be aware of the Living Christ in everyday moments. Remember to thank the Lord for the blessings in your life and realize that God has a dream for each of us. It is my hope, as we share this journey together in Jesus Christ; we become challenged to active discipleship and fellowship. As a result, we carry the teachings of Jesus Christ into future generations through word and deed!
We are the future and the future is bright!
Thank you for your interest in our St. Thomas More Parish faith life! We believe our Parish Religious Education Program will offer your children opportunities to deepen their knowledge of our Catholic heritage. We are here to prepare your children to know, to love and to serve the mission of the church for the good of God’s creation as they grow in faith.
We are blessed with wonderful skilled and caring Catechists/Teachers of the Catholic Faith. The close relationships we share with St. Thomas More School enhances our ability to provide a valuable dimension to our parish community as one Body of Christ. You may choose to explore the richness of our St. Thomas More School where academics and Catholic Tradition are integrated into one school of excellence.
This web page is designed to convey knowledge and information regarding Religious Education for the After School Program. It contributes Sacramental information and letters from the Religious Education Office regarding the calendar year. The faith formation program teaches our Catholic Scripture and Tradition for children in grades K-8 on Wednesday and Thursday from 4:30-6:00 p.m. during the school year.
My name is Sandi Morgan. I am the Director of the Religious Education program. It is my pleasure and great blessing to serve the St. Thomas More Community. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of St. Francis majoring in Social Work with a minor in Religious studies. Currently, I am a Master of Arts student at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago majoring in Biblical Studies with a minor in Catholic Doctrine.
During the passed twenty-five years I have raised two children and worked in various Administrative positions. I have been involved in many Catholic ministries. Catechesis remains closest to my heart.
Here at St. Thomas More we have one of the largest catechesis programs in the Diocese of Gary. We truly believe our curriculum prepares our young students to be leaders for the church within their family and community.
We invite you to join us! We look forward to welcoming you into our program and sharing the faith journey of Sacred Scripture and Tradition.
Peace,
Sandi Morgan
